Susie A. Jeffries

Second Generation | 1869-1947

 

 

Susie was born in Hale County in 1869.  The second daughter of Tom and Fannie, Susie was named for her paternal grandmother Susan.

 

She married James Arthur Martin (1867-1939), prominent Baptist preacher in Perry County, Alabama.

 

To this union eight children were born:

 James, Jr.  1888-1909

 Elizabeth Mae 1890-1938

 Bertha Lillian   1894-1942

 Mattie LaVert   1895-1996

 George Stanley 1901-1933

 Moses R.  1903-1971

 Henry Snead  1907-1938

 Fannie B.  1908-1987

 

Susie and James lived in Uniontown, Birmingham, and Selma, Alabama.  Following her husband’s death, Susie lived in Baltimore, Maryland, with her daughter and son-in-law., Mattie and Miles Conner.
